Mississippi’s Best Gambling Sites

Mississippi was quick to legalize sports betting when the US Supreme Court opened that door by overturning the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018. There were legal retail sportsbooks in operation in the state within three months of the Supreme Court ruling.

However, while there are now nearly 30 land-based sportsbooks operating under the state’s legal and regulated umbrella, resistance remains steadfast to opening the state up to online and mobile sports betting as a legal option. All of the state’s retail sports betting sites are located inside Mississippi’s 29 casinos.

BetMGM was the first sportsbook to launch in Mississippi in August of 2018. In September of 2021, BetMGM also became the first sportsbook to offer mobile wagering. Caesars has since added this option through their sportsbook. However, to place a bet with your mobile device, you must be physically present inside their land-based casino partners.

While there are 29 land-based casinos operating in the state, the Mississippi state government killed a bill in the spring of 2024 that would’ve delivered access to online and mobile gambling to players in the state.

The bill passed through the state house but died on the senate floor. If passed, it would’ve allowed access in Mississippi to bet on sports, play casino slots and table games and poker all via your mobile device or on a laptop or desktop computer. Opponents of the bill felt that its passage would negatively impact revenue at the state’s brick and mortar casinos.

Mississippi Senate Gaming Committee Chairman and negotiator David Blount suggested that lawmakers would revisit the proposal when the state government reconvenes. However, he also predicted that any new bill might limit online legalization options to sports betting.
