South Dakota Casinos and Legal Online Gambling

The tradition of gambling in South Dakota draws back to the state’s roots as a mining area. And interestingly enough, today that’s where much of the legal and regulated gambling in South Dakota is situated, within those old mining towns.

There’s also a heavy emphasis on tribal gaming within the state. There are both tribal and commercial casinos in South Dakota. All of the legal and regulated commercial casinos are located in the historic town of Deadwood.

While retail sports betting is legal in South Dakota, no form of online gambling is legal in the state other than pari mutuel wagering on horse racing.

While online wagering on sports remains illegal in South Dakota, there does seem to be a level of optimism that this could change in the near future. The bill had passed through the state senate.
