Here’s our shortlist of the best gambling sites UK players can join right now. bet365 tops the casino list because you keep whatever its free spins win, with no wagering. Betfred gives you one of the biggest free bet bundles for a tenner (£50). Mecca is the bingo name most of us know from the high street, and Ladbrokes earns the racing spot with Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am every day. All six are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. New players get up to 500 free spins over 10 days. Each day you reveal a prize of 5, 10, 20 or 50 spins, so your total depends on luck, but whatever the spins win goes straight into your withdrawable balance with no wagering. You only need £10 in lifetime deposits. The catch: the spins work on four games only, and each day’s batch lasts seven days. Read our bet365 Casino review.
18+. New Player Offer: 10 Days of Free Spins with up to 500 Free Spins. Terms: Min. £10 in lifetime deposits required. Offer must be claimed within 30 days of registering a bet365 account. Betfred started as a single shop in Salford in 1967 and is still owned by Fred and Peter Done. Its Trustpilot score of 3.1 from 14,826 reviews (checked October 2026) is far better than bet365 (1.3) or Ladbrokes (1.2). Smarkets charges 2% commission on net winnings as standard, and with Promo Code COMMFREE you pay 0% for your first 60 days. Win £100 trading the Premier League in that window and you keep £100 rather than £98. You need a £10 first deposit by debit card or instant banking; PayPal and Skrill don’t qualify. Yes. Online gambling is legal in Great Britain for anyone aged 18 or over, as long as the operator holds a UK Gambling Commission licence. Here’s how each type of gambling is regulated in 2026.
The main law is the Gambling Act 2005, which came fully into force on 1 September 2007. It set up the Gambling Commission, which regulates commercial gambling in Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales. Since 1 November 2014, any company taking bets from British players has needed a Commission licence, wherever it’s based. That’s why bet365 in Stoke-on-Trent and Smarkets, licensed through a Malta company, play by exactly the same rules.
Two things surprise people. First, you don’t pay tax on your winnings, whether it’s a tenner on the darts or £10,000 on a slot. The operators pay duty on their profits instead. Second, an offshore site without a Commission licence has no business taking British players, and if you use one you lose every protection on this page: ID checks, stake limits, GAMSTOP and free dispute resolution.
It’s a big industry. Gambling in Great Britain made £17.5bn in gross gambling yield in the year to March 2026, and online casino, betting and bingo accounted for £8.3bn of that, according to Gambling Commission figures published in September 2026. In 2025, 47% of adults had gambled in the previous four weeks, though for many of them that just meant a National Lottery ticket.
Slots, roulette, blackjack and live dealer games are all legal at Commission-licensed sites. Online slots have a stake limit: £5 a spin if you’re 25 or over, and £2 a spin if you’re 18 to 24. Since 1 April 2026 casino operators pay 40% Remote Gaming Duty on their profits, up from 21%. You don’t pay it, but it’s part of the backdrop to every welcome offer. Compare the current deals on our best online casinos UK page.
Fixed-odds bookmakers and betting exchanges are legal and licensed, from the high-street names to app-only firms. Free bet offers are still allowed, but since 19 January 2026 a bookie can’t make you play casino games to unlock a sports offer, or the other way round. From 1 April 2027 a new 25% duty rate applies to remote betting, while online bets on UK horse racing stay at 15%. See our best sports betting sites UK.
Betting on UK and Irish racing works the same way, with fixed-odds, each-way and Tote pool bets all legal. Bookmakers also pay the Horserace Betting Levy, 10% of their gross profits on British racing above a £500,000 threshold, which goes back into the sport. Racing runs deep in British betting: Betfred owned the Tote from 2011 to 2019. Our UK horse racing betting sites guide compares Best Odds Guaranteed and extra places by bookie.
Bingo sites need a Commission licence too. The 10x wagering cap covers promotional offers generally, we found no exemption for bingo, and every bingo offer on our list is at 10x or lower. Plenty of sites now let you pick either a bingo bonus or slot spins, as Mecca does. That’s still allowed after the January 2026 rules because you make the choice. Bingo Duty was abolished from 1 April 2026. More in our best UK bingo sites guide.
The National Lottery is regulated by the Gambling Commission. Its minimum age went up from 16 to 18: all sales, online, in shops and on the app, moved to 18+ on 22 April 2021, and the legal change followed on 1 October 2021. GAMSTOP blocks online instant win games, but not draw games such as Lotto and EuroMillions.
Cash games and tournaments are legal at Commission-licensed poker rooms, and the same age, ID and self-exclusion rules apply. Poker winnings are tax-free, like every other kind of gambling win in the UK.
The Gambling Act 2005 covers Great Britain. Only a handful of its provisions reach Northern Ireland, which has its own separate gambling law. That’s why some sites treat NI players differently. PlayOJO’s terms, for example, say players from Northern Ireland can’t get its first deposit bonus. Always check the terms before you sign up.
Great Britain has some of the strictest gambling rules anywhere. Every site on aGamble has to follow these, and they’re worth knowing before you deposit a penny.
Since 7 May 2019, sites must verify your name, address and date of birth before you can gamble. Expect the checks at sign-up, not after your first win.
Gambling on a credit card has been banned since 14 April 2020, online and in shops. Debit cards, bank transfer and e-wallets are fine, but read the offer terms: Betfred and Betway, among others, only count debit card deposits for their welcome offers.
Since 19 January 2026, no bonus can need more than 10x wagering, and that’s 10x the bonus, not your deposit plus bonus. A £20 bonus means £200 of play at most. Offers that make you mix products, such as ‘bet £10 on football, get free spins’, are banned too.
£5 a spin for players aged 25 and over since 9 April 2025, and £2 a spin for 18 to 24-year-olds since 21 May 2025. The limit applies to every online slot at every licensed site.
One free sign-up blocks you from every Commission-licensed online site for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years, or 5 years with auto-renewal. Every licensed online operator has had to take part since 31 March 2020.
Since 31 October 2025, new customers are prompted to set a deposit limit before their first deposit. Since 30 September 2026, every site must offer a gross deposit limit over fixed time periods, shown at least as prominently as any other limit.
If a site hasn’t sorted your complaint within 8 weeks, or its complaints process has finished, you can take it to an independent, Commission-approved ADR service. It costs you nothing.
In July 2026 the Commission confirmed these checks will come in stages, starting with the biggest operators and net deposits above £5,000 in 24 hours (£2,500 for under-25s). No start date has been set yet, and the Commission expects most checks to be frictionless.
Ten current offers across casino, betting and bingo, with the wagering and Promo Code for each. Free bet winnings carry no wagering, but the free bet stake usually isn’t returned, so a £10 free bet at 2/1 pays £20, not £30.

It takes five minutes to check a site before you hand over your card details. Here’s how we do it.

| Apr–Sep 2026 | Remote Gaming Duty rises from 21% to 40% and Bingo Duty is abolished on 1 April. New deposit limit rules take effect on 30 September. |

The next big change for players is financial risk checks. The Commission has confirmed a staged rollout but, as of October 2026, hasn’t set a start date.
