UK Gambling Site Reviews: How We Test, Score and Rank Them

We’ve reviewed 46 UK gambling sites: 20 online casinos, 14 bookmakers and betting exchanges, and 12 bingo sites.

Every one holds a UK Gambling Commission licence, and every review covers the same things: the welcome bonus and its small print, how to claim it, who owns the site, what you can play or bet on, what real players say, and an honest list of pros and cons.

This page explains how we do it, how our scores are worked out, and what thousands of UK players on Trustpilot and the App Store tell us they actually want from a gambling site.

The short version: fast, hassle-free withdrawals matter far more to people than the size of the welcome bonus.

Rankings are agamble.com editorial, updated October 2026. Every site listed holds a UK Gambling Commission licence.

How we review

How we review a UK gambling site

Every review follows the same six steps, so you can compare a bingo site with a bookie on the same terms.

1
Check the licence first
We look the operator up on the Gambling Commission’s public register and note the company that actually holds the licence. That matters more than you’d think: Hippodrome and JackpotCity run on Betway’s licence, Genting’s online casino runs on the same licence as PlayOJO, and five ProgressPlay bingo brands share one. If a site isn’t on the register, we don’t review it.
2
Read the full terms, not the headline
We read the complete offer terms, not just the banner. That’s where you find the details that change the value: payment methods that don’t qualify (often PayPal or paysafecard), minimum odds, spin values, expiry dates, maximum win caps and whether wagering applies to the deposit as well as the bonus.
3
Work out what the bonus is really worth
We turn every offer into pounds. 200 free spins at 10p is £20 of play. A £20 bonus at 10x means £200 of wagering before you can withdraw. A £10 free bet at evens returns £10 profit, not £20, because the stake isn’t returned. Those sums go into every review.
4
Check the regulatory record
We note any Gambling Commission fines or settlements from the last five years, with the amount and the year. Plenty of big names have them: bet365’s UK companies agreed £582,120 in 2024, Betfred paid £900,000 in 2026 and LC International (Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala, Foxy) paid about £14m in 2022. We tell you, then let you decide.
5
Read what players say
We read recent Trustpilot reviews for every brand and record the score and number of reviews, and we check the brand’s UK App Store rating where it has an app. We look for complaints that keep coming up, not one-off rants.
6
Compare and score
Each review compares the site with three rivals of the same type, side by side, and ends with a score out of 5 worked out the way we explain below. Every review shows the date it was last updated.
Ratings

How our ratings are calculated

Every site gets a score out of 5. It’s an editorial score built from five areas, weighted by how much each one matters to UK players, then rounded to one decimal. Our rankings follow the scores, so a higher score always means a higher place in our lists.

Welcome offer value and fairness (30%). The £ value against what you have to deposit or stake, and above all the wagering. No wagering scores highest; 10x, the legal maximum since 19 January 2026, scores lowest. Short expiry dates, max win caps and payment exclusions knock points off.
Trust and safety (20%). UK licence, who owns the site, the last five years of regulatory action, and the safer gambling tools on offer, such as deposit limits, time-outs and GAMSTOP.
Player feedback (20%). Trustpilot score and volume plus the App Store rating. Repeated complaints about withdrawals or account closures count against a site more than complaints about losing, because every licensed slot pays out at a fixed rate set by the game maker.
Product (20%). For casinos, the range of slots, live tables and exclusive games. For bookies, sports, markets, bet builders, cash out and racing extras like Best Odds Guaranteed and extra places. For bingo, room types, ticket prices, free bingo and chat.
Payments and support (10%). Deposit and withdrawal options, whether the operator publishes its payout times, and how easy it is to reach a real person.
Why a site can score 4.5 with us and 1.3 on Trustpilot

bet365 is a good example. Its welcome free spins have no wagering at all, the app is rated 4.5 from more than 20,000 App Store ratings, and it’s licensed and family-owned in Stoke-on-Trent. But its Trustpilot score is 1.3 from 7,105 reviews, mostly from people whose accounts were restricted. We don’t hide that, it’s in the review. Our score weighs it alongside everything else rather than letting one source decide.

Player feedback

Best-reviewed UK gambling sites on Trustpilot

These are the sites we review with the strongest Trustpilot scores, counting only profiles with more than 500 reviews so a handful of happy customers can’t skew the picture. Scores checked October 2026.

Notice what’s missing: the biggest household names. Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala and Betway all sit at 1.2 on Trustpilot, and bet365, Grosvenor and Foxy at 1.3. Smaller and more specialist operators tend to score better, often because players can reach someone who knows their account.

Ladbrokes has more than 100,000 App Store ratings averaging 4.7, and a 1.2 on Trustpilot. Both are true. App ratings are mostly left by people using the app day to day, often when the app asks them, so they reflect how smooth it is to bet or play. Trustpilot is where people go when something has gone wrong, usually with a withdrawal. We use both, because together they tell you how a site works on a normal Saturday and what happens when you hit a problem. What players want

What UK players want from a good gambling site

We read the recent Trustpilot reviews for all 46 brands. The same wishes come up again and again, whether it’s a bingo player in Leeds or a punter with an acca on the Saturday 3pm kick-offs.

1. Withdrawals that are fast and predictable

This is the biggest theme by a distance. The happiest reviews, at Spreadex, NetBet, Pub Casino and QuinnBet, mention money landing within hours. The angriest describe withdrawals stuck on pending for days or weeks, at Betway, Casumo and Slingo among others. Players don’t mind waiting a day if they’re told it’ll take a day. They mind not knowing.

2. ID checks done once, at the start

The second biggest complaint is being asked for documents only when you try to withdraw, then being asked again. Reviewers at Betway, Coral, Dotty, Gala, Wink and Mr Vegas all describe it. UK sites are legally required to verify you, and source-of-funds checks are part of the rules, so checks themselves are fair. Our advice: upload your ID and proof of address as soon as you open an account, not after a win.

3. Not being restricted for winning

Accounts limited or closed after a win is the main reason the biggest bookies score so badly on Trustpilot. It comes up repeatedly at bet365, Ladbrokes, Virgin Bet and William Hill. Sites rarely explain why. If you bet seriously, it’s worth spreading your accounts across a few bookies. On betting exchanges like Smarkets and Matchbook you bet against other punters rather than the house, so there’s no bookie trader deciding to cut your stakes, though exchanges still carry out their own account checks.

4. A real person when something goes wrong

Players praise named live chat agents at Dotty, Videoslots, Wink and Matchbook. They complain about chatbots that loop at Betway, Slingo and Virgin Bet, and about phone lines that can’t help with online accounts. A site that lets you reach a human quickly earns a lot of goodwill.

5. Bonuses that do what they say

Missing free spins and bonuses that weren’t credited come up at Hippodrome, Spin and Win, Foxy and William Hill Vegas. Usually the cause is in the terms: the wrong payment method, depositing before opting in, or missing a deadline. That’s why every one of our reviews has a step-by-step claim guide and spells out the exclusions.

6. Apps that don’t crash, and rewards that don’t dry up

Games freezing mid-bonus and logouts mid-bet are a steady gripe, mentioned at Mecca, Grosvenor, Heart and PlayOJO. And long-standing players at Gala, Slingo and Virgin Bet feel the perks have been cut back once the welcome offer is spent. Sites like PlayOJO, which gives money back on every spin, tend to get credit for that.

A note on “slots that never pay”

It’s one of the most common complaints on Trustpilot for every casino and bingo site. Every licensed slot’s return to player (RTP) is set by the game maker and tested independently, so the casino can’t tighten it for you. Long losing runs are part of how slots work. That’s why we don’t mark sites down for it, and why setting a deposit limit before you play is the best protection there is.

FAQ

UK gambling reviews: FAQs

How are aGamble’s ratings calculated?
Each site is scored out of 5 across five areas: welcome offer value and fairness (30%), trust and safety (20%), player feedback from Trustpilot and the App Store (20%), product (20%), and payments and support (10%). The score is rounded to one decimal and sets the site’s place in our rankings.
Do operators pay for higher ratings?
No. We may earn a commission when you sign up through our links, but that never changes a score or a ranking. That’s why our reviews include fines, poor Trustpilot scores and the downsides of every offer.
Why do big brands have such low Trustpilot scores?
Trustpilot mostly attracts people who’ve had a problem, usually a held withdrawal, repeated ID checks or a restricted account. Big brands have millions of customers, so they collect a lot of those reviews. Their App Store ratings, mostly 4.5 to 4.8, show most day-to-day users are happy. We weigh both.
Which UK gambling site has the best reviews?
Among the sites we review, Spreadex has the best Trustpilot score at 4.4 from 2,275 reviews. NetBet and Videoslots lead the casinos at 4.0, and Dotty Bingo leads bingo at 4.0. On the App Store, Smarkets, Betway Sports and Matchbook are all rated 4.8.
What do UK players complain about most?
Slow withdrawals, repeated ID and source-of-funds checks, accounts restricted after a win, chatbots instead of real people, and bonuses that weren’t credited. Most bonus problems come down to the terms, such as using an excluded payment method.
How can I avoid withdrawal delays?
Upload your ID and proof of address as soon as you sign up, withdraw to the same card or account you deposited with, and finish or cancel any active bonus first, because an active bonus often blocks withdrawals.
How often are your reviews updated?
We update a review whenever an offer or its terms change, and every review shows its last updated date. Trustpilot and App Store figures show the month we checked them.
Do you only review UK-licensed sites?
Yes. Every site in our UK reviews holds a UK Gambling Commission licence. We never review or recommend sites that aren’t on GAMSTOP; a site advertising itself that way isn’t licensed in Britain.
18+. Please gamble responsibly. Only play at sites licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. If gambling stops being fun, call the National Gambling Helpline free on 0808 8020 133 (GamCare) or self-exclude from every UK site at once with GAMSTOP.
aGamble.com is an independent guide. We may earn a commission when you sign up through our links; it never changes our rankings or reviews. Offers and terms were checked in October 2026 and can change, so always read the full terms on the operator’s site.
