America’s Trust and Use of AI Chatbots

The future is now. During the past year, the world has witnessed a remarkable surge in the use of artificial intelligence. Thanks to the increasing accessibility and user-friendly nature of AI chatbots, people are using AI in all aspects of their lives. From relationship advice and research, to help with homework and dinner recommendations, people are leveraging the power of AI to make their daily lives easier.

Here at AGamble.com, a guide to US legal gambling sites, we surveyed more than 1,000 Americans to better understand how people use AI. We asked questions about their use of AI to help with work, relationship advice and even guidance with finances.

AI Chatbot Use in 2023

One of the beauties of AI chatbots is their human-like response, when you ask questions it’s as if you were having a conversation with a real person. The chatbots use a combination of pre-programmed scripts and machine learning algorithms to give people real-time answers to just about everything, basing their answers more on probability of correctness than any actual calculation. 

Since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in late 2022, the use of AI is now widely accepted with 92% of Americans reporting having used an AI chatbot. And there is a clear preference: 85% say OpenAI’s ChatGPT is their chatbot of choice, 6% opt for Google’s Bard (which launched in March 2023) and another 6% favor Microsoft’s Bing AI (which was launched in February of 2023). 

On average, Americans consult an AI chatbot 5 times a week. Despite 1 in 5 saying they don’t understand how AI chatbots work, more than half said they can spot AI-generated content. Some of the ways people identify AI-generated content is by using their common sense, seeing repetitive language and finding errors in images.  

Using AI at Work

AI is infiltrating the professional world too. 1 in 3 Americans use an AI chatbot at work. The top uses for AI chatbots in the office include asking for help with writing, answering random questions, conducting research, answering emails and asking for advice. The main reason people report using an AI chatbot at work is to save time. 

In fact, 1 in 3 say AI has changed the way they work, and there is a clear fear the increased use of AI may lead to job losses, as 61% believe AI will lead to layoffs in the future. 

AI in Personal Lives

While AI chatbots are widely used for work tasks, smart tech is also there for personal use. 4 in 5 Americans use AI chatbots in their personal lives. The top uses include answering random questions, research, writing, suggestions and advice. In fact, 46% of Americans have asked an AI chatbot for advice! 

While there is no mistaking the convenience AI chatbots offer, it’s unclear if the world is really better off with the automation it provides. There are so many things AI chatbots can help with or make easier. Some of the top positives of AI chatbots include the ability to conduct research, fast response time, 24/7 availability, and help with work and writing abilities. 

But it’s not all good: there are plenty of downsides and downright scary outcomes when it comes to the use of artificial intelligence. The top negatives of widespread AI chatbot use include eliminating jobs, plagiarism, misinformation, deepfakes (an image or recording that’s been altered and manipulated to misrepresent someone) and cheating on tests.    

So, is the world better or worse with AI? 46% say the good outweighs the bad, but 1 in 5 say the world is worse off. 33% say it’s the same. 

AI and Advice

It’s not just clear-cut, factual questions Americans are asking chatbots. Many are wading into the shades of gray, asking for advice with the relationships in their lives. 1 in 10 have asked an AI chatbot for relationship advice and 74% said they followed the advice given! More than half of people are asking for help with a romantic partner (55%), but others are looking for advice about their friends, spouses, parents and children. 

While a chatbot is no therapist or relationship counselor, people say the top reasons for asking a chatbot for help are for the convenience of quick, judgment-free answers from an impartial source. 

Even though AI chatbots can’t feel human emotion and are incapable of knowing love, Americans are consulting them for help getting lucky. 1 in 12 have asked an AI chatbot for help with their love life with the majority seeking advice (62%). Others use it to help plan a date, write a love letter, respond to a text or write a poem. It also seems that you shouldn’t consult and tell as 71% didn’t mention to their love interest they asked an AI chatbot for help. 

Others are using AI to fill a void with 1 in 7 talking to an AI chatbot to feel less lonely. 

AI Chatbots and Money

Most AI chatbots have a free version, but some find the tool so valuable they wouldn’t mind paying. 1 in 5 said they would pay to use an AI chatbot. Nearly half said they would use an AI chatbot to help make financial decisions. 

AI chatbots can clearly be used in a variety of ways: 1 in 4 would even ask for help with gambling. When it comes to risking it all, people aren’t taking chances blindly. The top uses for AI and gambling are to help with game strategy, deciphering odds, betting research, picking lottery numbers and gambling education. 

The use of AI chatbots has experienced rapid growth in such a short time, transforming the way we interact and engage with technology. While these virtual assistants have changed the way we seek information, the issue of trust in AI chatbots remains undecided. 

Research Methodology

In May 2023, we surveyed 1,008 Americans about their trust and use of AI chatbots. Respondents were 50% male, 48% female, 1% non-binary and 1% would rather not say. Respondents ranged in age from 18 to 85 with an average age of 40 years old.

AI and Content Creation in the iGaming Industry: Efficiency, Challenges, and the Future of Writing Jobs

The use of AI in the creation of texts and stories for the gambling industry and affiliate sites is a growing trend. Artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning models like GPT-4 from OpenAI, have become increasingly proficient at generating human-like text, and can be trained to write on specific topics such as online gambling. AI can be an invaluable tool for generating content for websites, blogs, casino reviews, pages about latest casino promotions often at a fraction of the cost and time of hiring a human writer.

One of the primary benefits of using AI for content creation is efficiency. AI can generate content quickly and on demand, reducing the time and cost associated with hiring, briefing, and waiting for a human writer. This can be particularly beneficial for affiliate sites that require a constant stream of fresh content to maintain audience engagement and SEO rankings.

AI can also produce a high volume of content, making it easier for gambling affiliate websites and sportsbook comparison pages to maintain an active online presence across multiple platforms. And because AI can be trained on specific topics, it can generate targeted content that is highly relevant to the audience.

However, there are also potential downsides to using AI for content creation. While AI has become quite adept at generating human-like text, it can sometimes produce content that is grammatically correct but lacks the nuanced understanding of context and subtleties that a human writer would bring. This can result in content that feels somewhat generic or lacks personality.

Moreover, AI can’t replace the creativity and originality of human writers. While AI can mimic human writing styles and generate content based on what it has been trained on, it can’t truly innovate or come up with completely new ideas or perspectives in the way a human writer can.

Finally, while AI can generate content quickly, it still requires human oversight to ensure accuracy and quality. AI can make mistakes or generate content that is inaccurate or misleading, particularly if it is working with incorrect or outdated information. Therefore, a human editor is often still needed to fact-check and edit the information prepared by AI.

As AI continues to advance, it’s likely that it will play a larger role in content creation for the gambling industry and affiliate sites like ours. However, it’s also likely that there will still be a need for human writers and editors to provide the creativity, originality, and oversight that AI currently can’t. It’s not so much a matter of AI taking over these jobs, but rather of AI becoming a tool that can augment human capabilities and increase productivity.
